Kuuste manorial estate was first mentioned in 1521. After the Northern War the manor belonged to von Ungern-Sternberg family. At the end of the 18th century the Kuuste estate was divided into two parts - Vastse-Kuuste and Vana-Kuuste. In late 18th century the new early-classicist-style manor-house was built. In 1834 the estate was rented out to Tartu University to found a base for practical instructions to students in the field of agriculture. Since 1951 it houses the local school, and nowadays there are also a kinder-garden and a library.
Vana-Kuuste is closed for restoration in summer 2019. Good luck with the works!
