The first document mentioning Cesvaine, a charming town in Vidzeme, is from 1209. Since that time, ancient Lettgalian forts, a medieval archbishop's stone fortress, and the most recently built castle, have graced the picturesque landscape. Built at the end of the nineteenth century by Adolf von Wulf, the new castle complex, an excellent example of historical eclecticism, includes stables, the forester's house, greenhouses, a brewery, park, and teahouse and more. Because of the reconstruction of the roof (completion 2018 autumn), the interior of the castle is not open to the public at the moment. However, we invite you to come and enjoy leisurely walks in the surrounds of this lovely estate! A local guide is available and can provide more insight with history, stories and legends.
